Georgie asked if I could be the eyes and the ears for the fashion event, Underground Sound featuring Kim Kardashian that took place in the City Center Mall Parkade. I was super stoked for this event as it was to be a platform for local designers, pitting them against each other to design an original outfit based around “What Urban means to You”. There was $1000 up for grabs for the designer that impressed the Judges (Ashley Champagne, Ian Mulder and Shelly Solarz) the most.

The stage was set so almost everyone in the large venue could get a peek, which was greatly appreciated. I of course along with trusty photographer Paul elbowed my way to the front like any passionate fashion blogger would do to get you all the downlow. Okay on with the good stuff the

Ashanti Marshall

This outfit kicked off the show and the model was as fierce as the outfit. Very “GaGa” but who isn’t these days! Head to toe denim covered with sporadically placed draped chains. The jacket had a drama-inducing hood and high leather lined collar that peaked my interest to what else Miss Ashanti can do!

I could definitely see a few of my fashionable friends rocking this look. The print was busy in a good way providing just enough visual interest without making one nauseous. This kimono could be worn on it’s own or with the wide cuffed denim capris the designers paired it with. I love versatile pieces!

4). Jessica Halabi

I recognized her design as soon as it hit the floor! Miss Halabi always makes a statement and she did not disappoint with a beautiful asymmetrical and jewel embellished denim frock perfect for a night out on the town. Add a pair of her hand painted tights for a truly unique look.

3). Gabriela Cruz

Everyone needs to watch out for this girl because I see big things in her future. Her design featured a zipper in the back that ran the length of the very short brightly printed dress. Amazing, bold and only to be worn by the most daring.

2). Derek Jag

Derek really impressed me with his submission (and Kim Kardashian who ordered one for herself). A one shoulder distressed tie-died denim dress adorned with chains, spikes and jewels! Derek really proved why he is a staple of all things fashion in the city. Watch the red carpets for one of his LUXX originals.

1). Sid Neigum

What can I say about Sid! He truly is on the path to destiny and we should all count ourselves lucky to see the journey unfold. The power shoulders, the immaculate construction and the passion simply re affirmed that we will soon see this talented designer’s work on runways all over the world. The judges agreed with me as Sid won the competition! Congrats sweet Sid on a well deserved win!
