The Art Gallery of Alberta held their second Refinery Late Night Art Party on Saturday July 10th. A fun evening featuring art exhibits by M.C. Escher and the Art of Warner Bros. Cartoons. The second floor gallery entrance featured a backdrop and props right out of a Willie Coyote cartoon and an eager photographer to capture you in your own Acme photo booth moment. Just outside of the main exhibits attendees were invited to etch, scratch and draw on 16mm film, which was later spooled into a short film by local filmmaker Adolfo Ruiz. On the third floor Illustrator Sarah Jackson drew portraits of guests as various condiments, a theme derived from her series A Jam Story. Josh Holinaty provided a small graphic novel as a take home, it is clear he was raised watching Warner Brothers cartoons. A beautiful evening ensured the outdoor terrace was packed full of Edmonton’s finest. Zinc catered the event serving delicious hors d’oeuvres and ice cream for guests to nibble on. A live improv performance by Rapid Fire Theater’s Amy Shostak and Arlen Konopaki in a Warner Brothers theme entertained attendees. People lingered on the terrace chatting, drinking and listening to DJ Dane Gretzky for hours until the terrace closed. Everyone moved inside to the main floor where DJ Shortround kept happy feet moving till the wee hours of the morning. If you missed this Refinery Party be sure to look out for the next one as fun was had by all.
That’s all folks…

FYI
The photographer for the 2nd floor ACME photo-booth was AGA Designer Clay Lowe.
Alison Service built the props.
